A Prayer Space in a school can make a significant contribution to SMSC (Spiritual Moral Social Cultural) provision. To quote from the OFSTED assessment criteria, "We know from experience that many pupils find a space to express their beliefs, religious or otherwise, which inform their perspective on life and their interest in, and respect for, different people's feelings and values," and that they derive a great "sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them, including the intangible." Prayer spaces are a wonderful way for pupils to experience spirituality. They provide the opportunity to process emotion and feelings through reflection and creative activities and offer a safe space for pupils to respond in their own way. Pupils can begin to process mental health, recent events (e.g. the pandemic) and relationship issues through talking and listening to God, in a peaceful and calm environment.
Our team will be there to facilitate pupils' engagement with the resources. The team are trained how to deal with safeguarding issues that may arise.
These prayer spaces can be adapted to fit a wide range of themes and can be created around the specific requirements of the school, including topics, timings, area, resources and so on. This is an opportunity to have a tailor made prayer space experience.
